Bhunte has a habit of strolling when his herd is engrossed in grazing. He had encountered many wonderful animals during this exploration. Today too was such day. He heard the alarm calls from Bonnet macaques and Spotted deer. His herd warned him to come back. But, he was curious. He saw animals running away from that bush. He walked towards it- very cautiously. When he was tiptoeing, he noticed some movement next to him. Someone was shaking the tall grasses. He carefully peeped in- by pushing the grasses aside. Voila! a tiger! With his nerves- all frozen, he stood there still. He wished he never had such curiosity. He wanted to go back to his herd. Suddenly, a very cute voice broke down all his nervousness. “Boo! I am Pukule. Please do not get scared. My brothers are playing over there. And my mom is sleeping. I saw you coming towards us. So, ran up to you to greet you. You want to play with us?” Bhunte had never heard of such generous offer from a carnivore! A cute carnivore! Though, he wished to join Pukule and his brothers. He knew clearly that their ways of playing will certainly hurt him. Without even responding to Pukule’s request- he ran, he ran closing his eyes, with all his stored energy and with a determined thought to never come back to that spot. Smashed! He banged on something hard. He opened his eyes to find his mom. She seemed worried. She rubbed her trunk on his head and pulled him closer. “Bhunte, I told you to not to ignore any alarm calls in the forests. I am not instructing you to hate them. But always, respect them and remain aloof from their way. They too are in the sad state. They are being hunted for their bright skins. You are lucky that you met them. I wonder if you will see them again”. She pulled Bhunte by his trunk and started walking towards the herd. His aunts and sisters were desperately waiting for him. They trumpeted when they saw him safe with his mom. When he reached amongst the herd and they started marching towards the river, he turned back to see- Pukule. After hearing from his mom, he felt sad about Pukule. He wished to meet him again and prayed for the safety of Pukule and Pukule’s family…
