After being exhausted playing with his trunk, Bhunte cuddled with his grandmom and asked her-
“Grandmom, how were we before? We had this trunk?”
Grandmom pulled him closer and told “It took millions of years for you and other elephants to become an existing elephant with a trunk. Belonging to the order ‘Proboscidea’- animals with trunks/ proboscis- your earliest ancestors were Moeritheriums (though still some argue, Phosphatherium- 60 million years ago- as your ancestor) and they were as small as wild pigs. Moeritheriums than evolved to form Trilophodon- a four-tusked elephant-in-making. Trilophodons blended with the changing environment and evolved as Deinotherium! They had tusks pointing downward. These tusks, then, evolved into flat structures- giving rise to Platybelodon. Platybelodons were then covered with hairs and evolved as what look-like-today’s-elephant- the Mammuthus or Mastadons! And finally, after a few million years-coping with the changing nature, we are here. Well, our ancestors crossed millions of years to be what we are now!”

Bhunte’s grandmom sighed with joy. While Bhunte was still wondering! And could not believe what he just heard from his grandmom…A pig-sized ancestor!
