Bhunte’s recent self-discovery journey was worth the effort. However, his grandmother shared an unusual and intriguing fact with him today. She revealed that Dugongs, Manatees, Hyraxes, and Elephants all share a common ancestor! Bhunte was initially perplexed by this news. He had never encountered or heard of creatures like Dugongs (marine herbivores also known as “ladies of the sea”), Manatees (herbivorous aquatic animals often referred to as “sea cows”), or Hyraxes (small terrestrial herbivores also known as “dassies”). It dawned on him that all these animals, including himself, shared a common trait – genetic makeup. They all descended from a common ancestor and adapted over time to various habitats, appearances, and diets. Despite their differences, they all share a common ancestor! Bhunte was left bewildered and kept scratching his head with his tiny trunk until he decided to chase a fluttering butterfly. His grandmother smiled at him, pleased with his curiosity.
