Bhunte: The baby elephant

Bhunte’s relatives in Sumatra send Bhunte’s herd – a message. Pooke- a pygmy elephant’s calf- too wrote a message to Bhunte about how her home is getting destroyed by humans who are planting a strange tree everywhere. She wrote, “Bhuke- a sunbear cub, Chatu- an orangutan, Paku- a Sumatran tiger cub, Gainde- a Sumatran rhino and many of my friends are in trouble.” Pooke stated that Chatu’s and her families are badly affected- 90% of Chatu’s home has been destroyed. Pooke wrote “humans called them Palm and they use it as the cheap vegetable oil. They have produced 60,000,000 tonnes today in South-east Asia. They are using it for cosmetics, food items, shampoo, cleaning and washing detergents”. She mentioned that “Bhuke, Chatu, Paku, Gainde and I feel very scared every day and night. I saw many of my friends being killed and starved as there are no food and house available for us. Bhunte please help us.” Bhunte could understand her, but he was helpless. He sobbed and thought if humans would have been more sensitive and stopped using “Palm oil”…
