Within three seasons (2021-2022),109 elephants have died since the Tsavo got hit by one of the worst droughts experienced in the eastern part of Africa for over 40 years! Bhunte has experienced intense temperature, sometimes having no water drink and grasses or branches to munch, but not for almost a year! Bhunte and his family need lots and lots of water and food per day. He told Sano, his sister elephant, how his home is now facing months and months of no water! Sano got terrified to listen to what happened to her aunty who got stuck in the mud during the dry period and died near the Kabini river in one of Bhunte’s homes. Bhunte was informed that his friend, Abiona, died because of a drought in Tsavo. Bhunte recalled his Africa trip. Sano was sad. She went behind Bhunte as Bhunte kept sharing the horrifying stories of drier forests.
